Costa Rica Medical Tourism
With the reputation as one of the world’s top eco-tourism destinations, it is easy to overlook the country’s healthcare industry, which also boasts world-class standards both in terms of facilities and quality of its medical professionals. There is already a well-established and growing market of medical tourists taking advantage of the low-cost and high-quality care, with most visitors seeking cosmetic surgery and dental work.
Costa Rica has unquestionably one of the best health care systems in Latin America, surpassing even the US in particular aspects of the service and standards offered to patients. The established cosmetic surgery institutes and clinics employ fully trained and nationally certified medical professionals to provide the most effective cosmetic surgery, non-surgical techniques and patient care available. The Costa Rica Plastic Surgery Board keeps an up-to-date listing of registered physicians so that authorities and patients are able to verify the qualifications and credentials of medical professionals.
Routine cosmetic procedures performed in Costa Rica include dental work (fillings to periodontics), face-lifts or reconstruction, tummy tucks, breast reduction/augmentation, liposuction and liposculpture to name a few. Materials and equipment used for diagnostic and laboratory work are FDA approved and imported from the United States. Despite the high-quality and standards, most of these procedure still only attract costs that are around half of what one would expect to pay in the US, inclusive of fees associated with medicines, patient care and the operation.
