Singapore Medical Tourism

Singapore’s long-standing and well-established history and reputation headlines its list of accolades and credentials as the premier medical tourism destination. The country’s ability to invest in research and development in healthcare also attracts increased numbers of international medical professionals and companies to undertake research and training in Singapore. This further enhances their already glowing reputation as a major leader in innovation and excellence in healthcare. In fact, Singapore collected the “Best Medical/Wellness Tourism Destination” award handed out by TravelWeekly (Asia) in 2007.

 

The seven public hospitals, six private hospitals, and six specialist national medical centres in comprise of Singapore’s fully integrated healthcare network. A total of nine hospitals and two medical centres have already obtained Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, and seven hospitals are International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certified. 

With a reputation for putting patient care and safety its number one priority, it is little wonder that Singapore is seen as one of the leading healthcare services hub in Asia. Over 400,000 international patients visited Singapore’s advanced world class healthcare facilities specifically for healthcare in 2006. There is further push by the Singapore Government to attract even greater number of medical tourists to the country through various incentives and initiatives for the healthcare service providers and tour operators.

 

Singapore Medicine is the main initiative that will oversee goals to transform Singapore into a leading destination for health care services in Southeast Asia, to cater for growing patient numbers from Indochina, South Asia, and the Middle East. Co-operation and participation by an increasing number of private hospitals to decrease procedural costs as part of this initiative is also attracting patients from developed countries such as the United States and the UK, who value the cosmopolitan and clean environment highly.
